Terms of Service
Last updated: October 19, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the FixFishTank website, chat assistant, community pages, and guides (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What FixFishTank Is
FixFishTank is a free AI assistant for aquarium keepers. You describe your tank, and it asks follow-up questions, suggests what to check, keeps a running set of notes, and offers a shortlist of gear that fits your setup. It also publishes guides and public conversations shared by other users.
We are not a veterinarian, a manufacturer, or a retailer. We do not sell livestock, and we do not take payments of any kind. The Service is funded by affiliate commissions (see Section 7).
2. Eligibility and Your Account
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You need an account to chat. Keep your password confidential — you are responsible for activity under your account, and you should tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised. Provide accurate information, do not share one account between several people, and do not impersonate anyone.
3. Acceptable Use
Use the Service for your own aquarium questions. Do not:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's rights;
- probe, scan, overload, or attempt to bypass rate limits or other technical limits;
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract the Service, our product data, or other users' shared conversations;
- resell the Service or its output, or use it to build a competing dataset;
- upload images or text you do not have the right to share, or anyone's personal information without their consent;
- use the Service to harm animals or to give others veterinary or medical advice.
We may rate-limit, suspend, or remove content that violates these rules.
4. Your Content
You keep ownership of what you put into the Service — messages, tank details, test readings, photos, and notes. To operate the Service we need a licence: you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, transmit, and display your content back to you, and to create the notes and shortlists the Service produces, for the purpose of running, securing, supporting, and improving the Service. We do not sell your content, and we do not use it to train models.
If you choose to make a conversation Public, you additionally allow us to display it on our Community pages, distribute it, and let search engines index it, until you turn Public off. You are responsible for what you upload and share, including making sure you have the rights to any photo and that it does not contain other people's private information.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve the Service without any obligation to you.
5. AI Output Is Advisory
FixFishTank generates answers with a large language model. It can be wrong, incomplete, or confidently mistaken. Its output is general information for hobbyists, not veterinary or medical advice, and it is not a substitute for testing your water or inspecting your fish. Always check dosing, medication, and water-treatment instructions against the manufacturer's own label before you act. Do not rely on the Service where a wrong answer could put animals or people at risk.
6. Product Information
Product details and prices come from third-party sources and retailer listings. They may be out of date, incomplete, or wrong. A product shown here may be discontinued, out of stock, or priced differently at checkout. We do not guarantee that any recommendation fits your tank or that a listed price is current — verify on the retailer's page before buying.
7. Affiliate Disclosure
FixFishTank participates in affiliate programmes, including the Amazon Associates Programme. When you follow a retailer link and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend — if the honest answer is "you do not need to buy anything", we say so.
8. Third-Party Sites and Purchases
All purchases happen on retailer websites, not here. We do not process payments, ship products, handle returns, or track orders. The retailer's terms, return policy, and shipping policy apply to your purchase. A link is not an endorsement of everything else that retailer sells.
9. Sharing and Public Conversations
You can share a conversation with a private link, or make it Public so it appears on our Community pages. Private links are visible only to people who have the link. Public conversations can be found and indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing, and other users can read them.
You can turn Public off at any time: the conversation is removed from the Community pages and from future crawling, though search-engine caches and copies may persist for a while. Do not put personal details in a title or message you intend to share.
10. Our Intellectual Property
The Service — its text, design, logo, code, and curated product data — belongs to us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial licence to use the Service as intended. You may not copy, republish, or redistribute our content or data at scale, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests endorsement. "FixFishTank" and our fish mark are our trademarks.
11. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these Terms, harms other users, or puts the Service at risk. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content licences for conversations you made Public, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and intellectual property — survive.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any answer is correct. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, dead or injured livestock, damaged equipment, or losses from relying on an answer. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which is normally zero, or (b) USD 50. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Indemnity
If a third party brings a claim against us because of content you uploaded or shared, or because you broke these Terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and damages.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page, and if the change is material we will also tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
16. General
If one part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a right once, we do not waive it. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours if the Service changes hands.
We have not designated a single governing law. Where mandatory law in your country of residence gives you rights that conflict with these Terms, those rights prevail, and nothing here limits them.
